From a previous guest:

When my wife and I signed up for a Spanish immersion trip with Palabras y Pasos in Mexico City, we didn’t know exactly what to expect. Our group of six was a mix of language levels: two absolute beginners, two advanced beginners, and two intermediate learners. What unfolded was a day filled with laughter, learning, and cultural discoveries that brought us closer together and to the vibrant heart of Mexico City.

A Flavorful Start at a Local Café

Our day began with breakfast at a charming local café in the Roma neighborhood, where the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and warm pan francés filled the air. Mexico City’s culinary scene lived up to its reputation, with fresh ingredients stealing the show. Freshly squeezed orange juice in our glasses, and the chilaquiles—crisp tortillas smothered in tangy salsa—were a group favorite. As we navigated the menu, our teacher, Litza, turned breakfast into a lively Spanish lesson. She introduced us to the vocabulary of the table: tenedor (fork), cuchara (spoon), cuchillo (knife), servilleta(napkin), and vaso (glass).

Litza set the tone for the day, encouraging us to embrace our Spanish, no matter our level, and enjoy the journey. We snapped photos of our colorful plates and took turns describing our meals in Spanish to the group. The beginners stumbled a bit through some simple sentences while the intermediate learners added flair with details about flavors. It was fun, collaborative, and set a warm, supportive vibe for the day.

Learning Through Play and Preparation

After breakfast, Litza pulled out a whiteboard to preview the day’s adventures. She introduced key phrases we’d need throughout our day. To make vocabulary stick, she led a lively game that had everyone laughing. Lotteria! We played bingo with spanish words and objects. Litza’s facilitation was masterful—she kept it engaging for the whole group, ensuring the advanced learners were challenged while beginners felt included. Her passion for teaching made every moment feel like an opportunity, not a test. The game was so much fun, we had to play it agin on our last day before we said goodby!

Immersive Adventures in Mexico City

As we ventured into the city, Litza sparked conversations in Spanish, speaking slowly and clearly to accommodate all levels. She prepped us for real-world situations, from buying tickets to asking for directions. Whether it was a beginner practicing “¿Dónde está el museo?” or an intermediate learner negotiating a purchase, everyone had a chance to shine. Litza’s encouragement was infectious—she celebrated every effort, no matter how small, and her kindness created a safe space to try.

Our day included visits to two incredible museums, where Litza’s deep knowledge and love of Mexican culture brought the exhibits to life. She wove Spanish lessons into the experience, pointing out artifacts and prompting us to describe them in our own words. Her passion for her heritage was contagious, and we found ourselves not just learning Spanish but falling in love with Mexico City’s history and vibrancy. From the intricate details of pre-Hispanic art to modern installations, we were immersed in both language and culture.

A Group That Grew Together

What stood out most was how Litza balanced our diverse group. We had a recent university graduate, a budding musician and actor, a newly retired executive, a prominent physician, a mom turned crypto trader, and a passionate community advocate.

She gave equal attention to each of us, ensuring the beginners weren’t overwhelmed and the intermediate learners stayed engaged. We cheered each other on, sharing tips and laughing over unique vocabulary By the end of the day, we felt a sense of camaraderie and confidence. I could order a drink, ask for directions, and even chat briefly with a local—skills I never imagined I’d pick up so quickly.

Why Palabras y Pasos?

Our day with Palabras y Pasos was more than a language class; it was a cultural adventure that made Spanish come alive. Litza’s expertise, the hands-on learning, and the vibrant backdrop of Mexico City transformed our group into confident speakers and curious explorers. Whether you’re a complete beginner or brushing up on intermediate skills, Palabras y Pasos offers a personalized, immersive experience that’s as fun as it is educational.
